a Beautiful Topiary
The noun, Topiary, such as a tree or bush, is
a plant that is cut or grown into a decorative shape.
The verb, Topiary is the art of shaping plants in this
way. I didn’t know it was a verb too, did you?
Topiary is known to have been practiced in the
1st century ad. The earliest topiary was probably the simple development of
edgings, cones, columns, and spires to accent a garden scene. This
architectural use gave way to elaborate shapes such as ships, hunters, and
hounds. The fashion reached its height in Great Britain
Today, topiaries seem to be back stronger than
ever. As I said before, I love topiaries. (Good News)… I don’t have a green
thumb (Bad News). I wish I could grow house plants; they give so much life to a
space. I love the added color, the added ‘life’, the original shapes, the
various textures that they bring to any room. Well, luckily for me (and maybe
you too), the natural beauty of plants (and especially topiaries) can be
brought to our homes without all the mess and hassle of live plants because we
are now offered a beautiful selection of lifelike topiaries and silk plants by
many retailers. These lifelike plants can possibly fool the best
horticulturalist… I know there has been many a time that I have had to actually
walk up to a plant and touch its leaves to convince myself that it isn’t real.
Isn’t’ that just the greatest new?
